Sustane Technologies and Pyrovac Inc. Announce Strategic Alliance to Tackle Waste Plastic with Breakthrough Circularity Technology

Halifax, N.S. – May 21, 2025 – Sustane Technologies and Pyrovac Inc. have entered into a long-term, strategic alliance that grants Sustane exclusive access to Pyrovac’s advanced reactor and related technology for waste plastic processing. The agreement marks a major milestone in scaling circular economy solutions in Canada and internationally.

The initial phase of the agreement includes a contract valued at over $7 million for a two-reactor upgrade and expansion at Sustane’s Chester, Nova Scotia facility. More significantly, the deal includes exclusive rights to Pyrovac’s proprietary technology for plastic feedstock, based on a compelling mutual growth model.

“This inter-provincial partnership is significant on several levels. We’re combining cutting-edge, made-in-Canada technology with 30 years of world-class research and innovation to materially reduce waste plastic and create real economic value. Pyrovac’s deep scientific credibility and process engineering excellence make them the ideal long-term collaborator as together we expand our footprint nationally and ultimately globally,” commented Peter Vinall, CEO of Sustane Technologies.

Pyrovac, based in Quebec, has spent decades developing thermal decomposition technologies that transform industrial and forestry wastes into high-value outputs. This agreement represents the first commercial deployment of Pyrovac’s technology – within Sustane’s circular plastic process.

“We’re proud to align with Sustane, it is a company that not only shares our vision for a sustainable future but also has the operational readiness and scale to advance Pyrovac’s technology domestically and also internationally.” stated Christian Roy, Founder and President of Pyrovac Inc. “Together, we’re building a foundation for a new kind of materials economy.”

Both companies have received government support for earlier development work. As they continue to scale, this collaboration underscores the growing role of Canadian cleantech leaders in shaping global environmental solutions.

About Sustane Technologies

Sustane Technologies is a Canadian clean technology company, pioneering advanced plastics upcycling and resource recovery from municipal solid waste. Using a patented process, Sustane transforms unsorted waste, including difficult-to-recycle plastics, into high-value products such as engineered plastics, renewable synthetic fuels, and recyclable materials. By diverting up to 90% of waste from landfills, Sustane advances a circular economy model that significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions and plastic pollution. With operations based in Nova Scotia and projects advancing across North America and Europe, Sustane is unlocking new value from waste while supporting industry and governments in meeting their climate and sustainability goals.
